Types of Bariatric Surgery

Basically there are four types of Bariatric Surgery and these are following:

• Adjustable gastric banding.
• Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.
• Mini Bypass Surgery
• Vertical sleeve gastrectomy.

Adjustable gastric banding

Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) is a type of weight-loss surgery. Weight-loss surgery is also called bariatric surgery. It’s done as a laparoscopic surgery, with small incisions in the upper abdomen.

Roux-en-Y gastric bypass

Roux-en-Y (roo-en-wy) gastric bypass, is a type of weight-loss surgery that involves creating a small pouch from the stomach and connecting the newly created pouch directly to the small intestine.

Mini Bypass Surgery

Mini gastric bypass surgery in short MGB is a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery which is recommended for weight loss treatment. Mini Gastric By-Pass surgery is a type of combined surgery that allows for restricting the volume (as its dominant characteristic) and reduces the absorption in a much more controlled manner.

Vertical sleeve gastrectomy

During vertical sleeve gastrectomy (also referred to as gastric sleeve surgery), the surgeon removes about 3/4 of the stomach. As a result, patients lose weight because they cannot eat as much food. The procedure does not require open surgery; it can be performed laparoscopically through small incisions in the abdomen. Vertical sleeve gastrectomy is surgery to help with weight loss.

Its Advantages:

• It is a surgical procedure that takes shorter than gastric by-pass surgery.
• It has a lower complication rate.
• It has similar weight loss rates
• Recovery rates of obesity-related diseases are similar.

Its Complications:

• Reflux rate is higher
• Other complications and rates are the same.
